The Ironed Shirts

A Memoir

Writing this book was the meticulous calibration of a survival plan, and I must honour the forces that sustained my journey from the frozen streets of Paris to the reclamation of inner peace.

To the church that saved me in the bitter winter of 2009: thank you for providing shelter and sustenance when the cold pavement threatened to erase me completely.

To my mentor at the boutique hotel: thank you for looking past the rough surface of a wanderer to see my engineering potential, granting me the spark that ignited a career.

To my son, Robert: you are the ultimate, sacred architecture of my life, the absolute reason I never let the dark asphalt swallow me whole.

And finally, I choose to express a precise, diamond-sharp gratitude to Liza. Thank you for being the heaviest storm my machinery ever had to endure, forcing me to uncover an internal resilience I never knew I possessed. I harbour no bitterness, and I wish you true peace on your chosen path.

This book is not a weapon forged to strike back, nor is it a courtroom ledger meant to litigate past debts. It is a map drawn in the dark, a chronicle of how a man journeyed from sleeping on the freezing concrete of Paris with nothing but five ironed shirts, to building an unbreakable inner sanctuary after surviving the ultimate collapse.

If you are currently trapped in a lopsided dance, pouring your lifeblood into a vessel that only leaks, ignoring the alarm bells screaming in your soul—stop. Do not make the fatal error I made. Do not wait for a graceful ending from a dynamic designed only to consume you. Face the bitter truth, audit your own hidden motives for staying, and pull the plug before the very walls you built come crashing down to bury you.

Thank you for reading.
